Bratislava castle is the most dominant sight of the city. It is 85m above the river level Danube on the rocky hill. The first written report about the castle is from the year 907.(Salzburg) Nowadays some of the castle rooms are used for the representative and the state purposes. We can find there some expositions of the historical department of the Slovak National Museum.
This sight is known as the President Palace because it became the residence of the president. It was built in 1760. The large garden in French style is open to public and is the part of the Palace. Palace can be visited during the Opening days.
The biggest and the highest statue of Bratislava is the statue „Victory“ in the monument Slavín from Alexander Trizuljak. The height of the monument is from the basic plateau 52m. It was inaugurated on 4th April 1960. This monument and the cemetery were built in honour of 6845 soldiers of the Soviet Army who died while setting at liberty the city during the WWII.
St. MARTIN´S DOME
St. Martin´s dome is three aisled gothic church ordained in 1452. The rare group of statues of St. Martin from the sculptor George Raphael Donner is in the church. The tower is 85m high and is the highest in Bratislava and on the top there is the gold-coated 300kg heavy copy of Hungarian Saint Stephan´s crown. It is the evidence that St. Martin´s Dome was the crown church.
In the second half of the 13th century the town forifications were built. From the original four gates we have only one Michael gate. On its top there is the statue of the archangel Michael killing the dragon. When visiting it, don´t forget the upper terrace with the beautiful view and the Museum of arms and the medieval fortification art.
Pre-historic ruins of gothic and later rebuilt castle is located above the city part Devín above the confluence of the rivers Danube and Morava. The permanent exposition „The architectural development of Devín castle“is installed in the caves of the upper castle.
Medical garden is one of the most favourite Bratislava parks. Except for the beautiful nature thanks to which you forget that you are just right in the city center, some cultural and entertainment events are held there.
In Bratislava there is also ZOO that was open in 1960. There are 176 kinds of animals and about one thousand pieces of animals. ZOO is open all year round.
